PlayStation 5 will have SSD Storage

The next generation of the Sony PlayStation will be getting a much needed upgrade in the form of solid state storage.

For many of us SSDs have been a common place for a while now but for anyone who has been living under a rock for the last 20 years let me explain; SSD is a form of storage that greatly improves data access speeds, both read and write over traditional mechanical hard drives. What does this mean? Faster loading times, a lot faster loading times.

According to a report from Wired, Playstation 5 lead system architect Mark Cerny, demonstrated the next gens loading performance by comparing it directly to the PS4. Cerny loaded up Spider-Man on both consoles and performed an in game fast travel, first on the PS4, which took around 15 seconds, a wait all console enthusiasts are familiar with regardless of their allegiance. Then Cerny performed the same fast travel on the PS5 devkit which loaded in… wait for it… in a staggering 0.8 seconds.

Load times on consoles is often the first things console haters point out when they kick off on a PC master race rant, so will this be enough to finally silence them for good? Time will tell.

The PS5 is expected to be released in 2020 boasting, more power, ray tracing support and backwards compatibility.

I went to the store to get more fire, to start the war.
