What better way to kick off Australia’s biggest Video Game convention than with one of the biggest games on the horizon, I’m talking about none other the CD Projekt – Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.
As hundreds of fans entered the theater, there was just as many fans who were unfortunately turned away as the theater was at capacity. For the lucky fans who got in, we were greeted by none other than Hollie Bennett, Head of Communications for CD Project Red who not only introduced Cyberpunk 2077, but did a fantastic job narrating as her colleague played through roughly an hour of jaw-dropping Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay.
Unfortunately, Hollie enforced that no footage was to be recorded, which despite our frustration , we completely understood.
So here’s the complete video of the 60 minute presentation of Cyberpunk 2077 from PAXAUS. First up, Hollie showcased the customization’s possible when creating your character, V. This included a number of choices such as sex (I obviously mean male or female) facial customization’s, hair, character classes (Netrunner and Strong Solo were on show today), cyberware, and a heap more. Unfortunately as we were on a time schedule, the default customization was selected so we could continue and not waste half our life creating the perfect V. Once all our skill points were assigned, we were ready to enter Night City.
From here we jumped into the game and instantly into our first mission. I won’t give too much a way, but V had made a deal with one of Night City’s most ruthless gangs called the Voodoo Boys. This mission displayed a wide variety of gameplay from both the Netrunner and Strong Solo classes, which even included multiple playthroughs with the opposite class to showcase the variety of ways to complete objectives. You could use pure strength to pry open doors and dispose of enemies, while as a Netrunner you are able to hack electronic equipment such as cameras or even robots to kill enemies without a trace of evidence.
There wasn’t much that we haven’t seen in previous footage, but any footage of Cyberpunk 2077 is always appreciated and as always, it looked amazing. The seminar concluded with an underlining message that perhaps best sums up CD Projekt Red’s vision- The choice is yours, “choices you make shape the story and the world around.” Oh, we also got free T-shirts!
