Much of Phil Spencer’s article reiterated a lot of information that we have already seen since the news dropped of the next generation console at the Game Awards 2019.  He did go into more detail regarding the graphics, which he claims will allow developers to deliver 12 teraflops of GPU, which is eight times faster than the original Xbox One and twice as fast as the Xbox One X

Phil Spencer touched on the custom processor designed around the AMD’s Zen 2 and RDNA 2.  The processor is said to deliver four times the processing power of the current generation Xbox OnePhil Spencer quotes “Xbox Series X delivers a true generational leap in processing and graphics power with cutting edge techniques resulting in higher framerates, larger, more sophisticated game worlds, and an immersive experience unlike anything seen in console gaming”.

Information around variable rate shading was also highlighted which explained this feature would allow game developers to prioritise graphic elements allowing for higher frames rates and resolutions on objects and characters.

Features such as backwards compatibility, 120 FPS support and NVMe SSD storage upgrades were touched on.  The SSD Storage upgrade will allow players suspend multiple games at once and jump back to exactly where they left without waiting through long load times.

There is no official launch date for the Xbox Series X at this stage but its rumoured to launch around the same time as E3 2020, so stay tuned for more information around the next generation of Xbox console as its gearing up to be a big game changer.
