In a major win for Baseball fans, Sony have confirmed that MLB: The Show will no longer be a PlayStation exclusive and will make its debut on other console platforms from as soon as 2021.
San Diego Studio, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party studio, has been delivering premier baseball games for over 20 years. So it comes as no surprise that Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and San Diego Studio have all agreed to a multi-year extension of MLB: The Show.
The surprise however is that MLB: The Show will no longer be a PlayStation exclusive and will feature on other console platforms (No mention of PC) It does make sense — why limit your product to only one portion of the market? Especially when you own 100% of the Baseball gaming market (I personally didn’t mind 2K Sport’s MLB 2K series). Finally, Xbox owners will no longer have to purchase a PlayStation to get their baseball fix, something I’m guilty of.
No word on cross-platform play or if any other PlayStation exclusives will venture to other console platforms, but hopefully this is the start of something special for gamers!
